A closer look beneath the gumline.
Each pet's needs are different. Your vet will recommend assessment and treatment based on their individual circumstances.
Why X-rays can be helpful
Much of a tooth sits below the gumline. Dental X-rays can reveal root damage, bone loss, retained roots or other changes that may not be visible.
When are they recommended?
Your vet may suggest images when a tooth is fractured, loose, painful or needs extraction, or when the clinical examination suggests problems under the gumline.
How they are performed
Diagnostic dental X-rays generally require an appropriate anaesthetic plan so the patient remains safely positioned and images can be obtained without movement.
Results and consent
Your vet reviews the images alongside the oral exam, then discusses treatment options, important risks, and any further costs before proceeding where required.
How much do X-rays cost?
Dental X-rays are charged separately from our advertised cleaning packages. Ask the team for an estimate based on your pet's needs.
Understand your options before deciding
Before consenting, please ask your vet about the procedure, important risks, possible additional tests and expected charges.
