Dental disease can be uncomfortable for pets, but early signs are easy to overlook. If your cat or dog has persistent bad breath, visible tartar, red gums or a change in eating habits, arrange a veterinary assessment rather than assuming it is only a cosmetic concern.

What happens before dental cleaning?
A vet will assess your pet's general health and oral concerns, discuss any relevant medical history, and explain the appropriate next steps. A pre-dental examination helps determine whether a cleaning package is suitable and whether additional procedures may be recommended.
What is included in Broadway Vet's dental packages?
Our current advertised dental cleaning package is NZ$559 for cats and NZ$759 for dogs. The advertised inclusions are pre-operative blood tests, sedation and general anaesthesia, continuous anaesthetic monitoring, ultrasonic dental cleaning, and pre- and post-operative consultations. The veterinary team will confirm the package and any individual requirements before treatment.
What may cost extra?
Dental X-rays, tooth extractions, post-operative medicines and other additional procedures are not included in the headline package price and may incur extra charges. Some needs become clearer only after an examination or a closer assessment under anaesthesia. Our team can explain the options and seek appropriate consent.
Is veterinary dental cleaning risk-free?
No medical procedure or general anaesthetic is entirely without risk. The individual risk depends on the animal's condition and circumstances. Discuss your pet's health, any prior anaesthetic problems and any concerns with the veterinarian before deciding whether to proceed.
Can home brushing or dental treats replace a professional dental visit?
Regular tooth brushing and suitable oral-care products can support daily dental health, but they do not replace a veterinary examination or treatment when dental disease is present. If you are unsure what is appropriate for your pet, ask the vet for tailored advice.
