Vaccination planning is an important part of preventive care for a new puppy or kitten. The appropriate vaccines and timing depend on your pet's age, previous vaccinations, health and likely exposure to infection. A veterinary consultation is the right place to build an individual plan.

Puppy & Kitten Vaccinations in Newmarket: A Vet Visit Guide | Broadway Vet pet health information poster

When should I arrange the first veterinary visit?

Arrange a veterinary appointment soon after welcoming a new pet, especially if its vaccination record is incomplete or you are uncertain what has already been given. Bring any breeder, rescue or previous veterinary records so the team can avoid unnecessary duplication and identify gaps.

Does every puppy or kitten follow the same vaccine schedule?

No. The veterinarian will consider age, any previous vaccine doses, potential exposure and the recommended product schedule. Some pets need a series of initial vaccinations followed by boosters; the timing is individual and should be confirmed by the treating vet.

Current Broadway Vet vaccination prices

Our current vaccination bundle prices include GST. The appropriate vaccine depends on your pet’s age, previous vaccination history, health and lifestyle, so the veterinarian will still confirm what is suitable at the appointment.

  • Cat core vaccination (Feline Tricat): NZ$120

  • Dog core vaccination (single core vaccine visit): NZ$125

  • Puppy vaccination bundle — Core + Leptospirosis + Kennel Cough: NZ$200

These bundle prices include the vaccination consultation and administration components shown in our current clinic billing setup. Other vaccines, travel-related requirements or additional treatment may be priced separately.

What about an adult cat or dog with an unclear vaccine history?

Adult pets may also need a vaccination review, including those whose past records are missing. The vet can discuss appropriate protection based on the animal's circumstances. Avoid guessing or restarting a course without first discussing the history.

Do indoor cats still need to discuss vaccination?

Yes. An indoor lifestyle changes some exposure risks, but does not automatically remove every potential infection risk. Your vet can help decide which vaccinations are appropriate based on your cat's living situation and medical history.

What should I bring to the appointment?

Bring the existing vaccination booklet or records, any microchip information, a list of current medicines and supplements, and details of recent illness or previous vaccine reactions. Use a secure carrier for cats and suitable leash or restraint for dogs.

Can my pet be vaccinated if it seems unwell?

Tell our team if your pet has vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, coughing, lethargy or other health concerns before the visit. A veterinarian may recommend an examination or postponement depending on the clinical situation.
