Before they fly, let's get the veterinary details right.
Each pet's needs are different. Your vet will recommend assessment and treatment based on their individual circumstances.
Destination requirements & planning
Tell us the destination country, travel date, pet species and exporter or airline requirements. We will review the veterinary preparation needed; confirm the official import and export rules with your pet exporter and the relevant authorities.
Travel vaccinations & records
We can review vaccination certificates and recommend or arrange appropriate vaccines or boosters where clinically suitable and available. Requirements and timing differ between countries, so please contact us before booking flights.
Microchip scanning & identification
We can scan and record an existing microchip, check the number against available records and discuss implantation if needed. Destination rules may specify when identification must occur in relation to vaccination or testing.
Pre-travel examination
A registered veterinarian can assess your pet's health before travel and document clinical findings. Fitness for travel is assessed individually and cannot be guaranteed in advance.
Parasite treatments & laboratory tests
Where required, we can discuss and arrange suitable parasite treatments, blood tests or external laboratory testing. Some requirements have strict time windows and may need multiple visits.
Veterinary paperwork & eligible signatures
Bring the exact forms requested by your exporter or destination. Our registered veterinarians can review records and complete or sign supporting veterinary documents within their professional authority. Final government export certificates may require an MPI-listed practice or an MPI official veterinarian.
Work with your chosen pet exporter
With your consent, we can share relevant clinical records with your pet transport company. Airline cargo bookings, travel crates, import permits and freight arrangements remain with the owner and their exporter.
Appointments & estimates
Please email the destination, proposed departure date, pet's details, microchip number and existing vaccination records. We will confirm the appropriate appointment and quote; vaccines, tests, treatments and paperwork may be charged separately.
Before, during and after your visit
Start with the official destination checklist
Before booking a signing appointment, obtain the current veterinary requirements from your destination authority and pet exporter. Tell us your planned departure date, route, pet's species and microchip number. Different countries may require a different sequence of vaccinations, testing and parasite treatments.
Bring the records to your appointment
Bring prior vaccinations and treatment details, microchip documents, any laboratory reports and the exporter-provided forms. We can perform a suitable examination, verify information available to us and advise whether additional tests or treatments are needed.
Confirm which person is authorised to sign
A New Zealand registered veterinarian can complete appropriate clinical and supporting documents, but this does not automatically authorise them to issue a government export certificate. For cats and dogs going to Australia, AUPET9 requires an MPI-listed veterinary practice; official-assurance certificates require an MPI official veterinarian.
Check the timing before your flight
Export checks and treatments may be valid only within a defined number of days before departure. Confirm the final instructions with the pet exporter and competent authority, and allow time for external laboratory results or an authorised certifier when required.
Services, suitability and costs differ by species and clinical circumstances. Your veterinarian will confirm a plan for your pet.
Who signs the final export certificate?
For cats and dogs travelling to Australia, an AUPET9 must be issued by an MPI-listed practice; some cases instead require an AUPETOA9 issued by an MPI official veterinarian. Other destinations may have different official certification requirements. A routine health check is not a substitute for a government export certificate.
Frequently asked questions
Can Broadway Vet sign my cat or dog's export certificate to Australia?
An AUPET9 certificate can only be issued by an MPI-listed veterinary practice. An AUPETOA9 official assurance requires an MPI official veterinarian. Ask us to check the current certification arrangements before booking; we can assist with suitable preparatory veterinary services and supporting documents.
Can you help with destinations other than Australia?
Please enquire with your destination and travel date. Import conditions, tests, treatment windows, certificate types and authorised signatories vary by country and pet species.
Is this the same as the clinic's pet pick-up and drop-off service?
No. This is veterinary preparation for overseas pet travel. Our local pet pick-up and drop-off service does not arrange international cargo, customs, flights or export certification.
What should I send before my appointment?
Please send your pet's species, age, microchip number, destination, planned departure date, current vaccine and treatment records, and any forms or instructions supplied by your exporter.
Can a veterinarian witness an Australian owner statutory declaration?
When an owner's statutory declaration is required, it must be witnessed by an authorised person, such as a Justice of the Peace or lawyer. An ordinary veterinary signature is not a substitute for the required witnessing.
Can you issue every country's final export certificate?
No. We can assist with veterinary preparation and documents within a registered veterinarian's authority. Official export certification must be issued by the MPI-listed practice or MPI official veterinarian authorised for the relevant process, where required.
Understand your options before deciding
Before consenting, please ask your vet about the procedure, important risks, possible additional tests and expected charges.
